So what's this all about?

My wife loves using Google's Picasa Web Albums for managing her photos online but she wanted to customize how the pages looked when she shared photos with her friends. I wrote a little script to pull the images out and organize them into a gallery I could customize. You can download the source code and install it on your site if you like.

Shortly after I lef the code into the wild, I started getting comments from users. Everyone loved the idea, which meant my wife wasn't alone in wanting a better looking web album. However, most users aren't interested in mucking with PHP and CSS just to get their pictures looking better. That's where I got the idea for ShareMyAlbum, a quick and easy way to share your photos in an attractive gallery.

How does it work?

Pretty simple concept actually. Google provides an RSS feed for each of the albums you have. These feeds include code for the title and description of your album as well as each of the photos you've posted with their titles. Your pictures are never downloaded to our server, they still live at Google. All we do is rip through that RSS feed and pull out the code we need, then style it to make it pretty.

Why should I make a ShareMyAlbum gallery?

Well, first of all it's a really easy way to share your pictures with friends. You get a short URL, http://ShareMyAlbum.com/YourNameHere which anyone can view, whether they have a Google account or not.

Because we use your album's RSS feed to update the photos, they're always up to date. Post a new photo to your Picasa Web Album and it'll automatically update on your ShareMyAlbum gallery, without doing anything.

Finally, it's fully customizeable. You can change from a full page layout to a fixed width one, modify all the colors of all the elements on the page, even upload your own background image to make your page perfect.
